11th July 2013 - 22nd September 2013
back to the season

Jens Brand’s “Raumarbeit II – Planetenmaschine nach Potocnik” (Small Water Reservoir) is a new piece in a series of “world machines” which the artist has been working on for several years. The machine, which is modelled on 18th century telluria with a loudspeaker module that orbits like planets, will be installed on the outer wall of the reservoir’s circular vaults, as well as a slowly rotating mirrored object located at the centre of the water reservoir. This machine has only one function: it permanently records itself and the visitors both optically and acoustically – a subtle allegory of modern machines and their barely fathomable functionality.
